the way they knew smelly gabe would totally open a package that wasn’t his. this is like those reddit stories where they put laxatives in the food their roommates keep stealing

the changes to Gabe turning to stone was such a good choice because it changed from an intentional thing on Percy & Sally's part to the consequences of Gabe's actions for not respecting Percy & Sally's boundaries and I think that suits this portrayal of Gabe much better

Percy genuinely believed that Sally was trying to get rid of him by sending him to all those schools. He was so hurt when she instantly said no to homeschooling, cause all he ever wanted was to be with her.
But in the flashback we see why that hurts Sally so much. Because all of this, all the schools, and the shitty step-dad, and the stories, and the lying when necessary, and the yelling and the crying and the stress, all of this was SO SHE COULD KEEP HIM.
Because baby Percy has no idea that there is a place, a perfect place, with people just like him, with people who would help and understand him. A place where baby annabeth may have only just arrived.
Sally could have taken him to camp instantly. Even as a baby. She was only 19!!! She could've taken him to camp in that flashback, when he was like 9, she could've lived her 30s as a single young woman starting her candy business. But she put herself through so much, and Percy through so much, because she knew that there is no place more perfect than home.
And she did what it took to keep her baby home and safe, with his mom.

Saw someone saying Percy believed Dionysus that he's his father at first 'cause because of Gabe he thought that's Sally's type and I can't stop thinking about it...

i believe ive made this post before but:
smelly gabe was still abusive in the series and saying he was too watered down or not abusive enough 1. belittles abuse victims hoing through a similar situation, 2. is not true
first of all, not all abuse is physical, gabe is constantly belittling and emotionally abusing and manipulating both sally and percy. he is constantly controlling them, answering sallys phone to control both her and percy, he controls the car, interrogating sally when she wants to use the car just to take to the beach, he also controls the money, using SALLYS money to gamble, he even gets turned to stone because he was controlling percys mail and opened the box
AND AFTER ALL THAT we dont see the physical abuse because 1. percy has been away from home, meaning he hasnt had the chance to be hit for a month or two at least, so he wouldn't have any marks, 2. the show is shot from an outside perspective, the books are from percys perspective, from an outside perspective we normally do not see the physical abuse such as hitting or kicking. even if we dont see the abuse directly u can look at percys mannerisms and tell, this child has been abused
gabe is abusive in the show, and if u think hes not u need to watch it again and pay attention

I really believe that Poseidon perfectly timed the package being at the door when Gabe arrived because he knew that smelly lil rat of a man would rip into what wasn’t his and also because the thought of this becoming canon makes me sleep better at night.

Something I’ve seen people criticise about the Percy Jackson tv show so far (including myself tbh) was that Gabe wasn’t as bad as he was in the books and they’ve “toned down” his abuse. He isn’t physically abusive like in the books, he never actually hit Percy but it’s implied that he does hurt Sally when Percy’s at boarding school, and I’m sure this was to make the show more child-friendly but I don’t think Gabe is “just an asshole” now. I think they just changed the kind of abuse he does. This might also be the reason Sally is less passive and stand up to him more (but we know she has stood up to Gabe at least once in the book).
Gabe is emotionally and financially abusive. We don’t know much since he wasn’t in much of the first episode (I’m assuming we’ll find out more as the show continues) but we do know that 1) he answers Sally’s phone + owns the car and 2) he doesn’t work but still gambles (like in the book, just online this time). Him answering Sally’s phone is a sign that he’s probably very controlling over her. This is added by the fact that despite her being the sole earner, Gabe owns the car.
The fact that Gabe doesn’t work (Percy says Sally is the only one employed) is a departure from the book where Gabe worked as a manager for an electronics store or something. This might signal financial abuse because he gambles Sally’s single income away. Gambling online might mean he gambles far larger amounts than he would with just his friends (like he does in the books) and on one income, that’s a big deal. There may only be enough money left to pay the bills and stuff or Sally has to work even more shifts to pay the bills because he gambles everything away. In the book, Sally works at a candy store at Grand Central and whilst we don’t know her job at this moment in the tv show, we can assume she works the same job meaning she’s got a low salary. This means Sally can’t afford to get away from him because he gambles all their money.
I’m sure we’ll learn more as the show continues but these are my thoughts about Gabe after thinking about his character for the past few days. I could be wildly wrong but for now, I feel confident in my opinions (mostly at least). I think some people forget we’re only 2 of 8 episodes into this season and so stuff that’s been left out so far could be revealed later and so judgements on character development and plot points should wait until later. There’s literally only 2 episodes so far.

I dont think Percy would go out drinking or stuff like that at frat parties or clubs cus alcohol probably makes him at least a little uncomfortable
Like with Gabe, who we know hurt both him and Sally
Growing up with a step-dad who drinks all the time, is abusive, and brings his friends over to gamble and drink some more would have affected him
We really need more fics abt how his trauma with Gabe affected him
